Mass for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Mass for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is held on the second Saturday of the month (September - May). The Mass is part of the regular 5:00 PM Saturday evening liturgy held at the South building, Christ Our Light, Zimmerman.
Members of the Deaf Community sign the readings as a voice interpreter translates the signing into words for the hearing community. Fr. Kevin is the presider and is fluent in American Sign Language. During the Mass, he signs and speaks at the same time in an attempt to bridge the world of the deaf with the world of the hearing for all present. An interpreter signs all the songs and congregations parts of the Mass. A potluck supper* is enjoyed after Mass.
*This is primarily attended by deaf members and their families and friends.
