Third Sunday of Lent, Year B, March 8, 2015, by Fr. Kevin Anderson

Posted by Michele Skeim on 3/09/15

Let me make this perfectly clear . . . life is hard.  That is a truth at whatever age we are.

So what do we do to help us through this hard life?   I need a few volunteers to help demonstrate.

[Invite a few kids up.]

There are ... Read More »

First Sunday of Lent, Year B, February 22, 2015, by Fr. Kevin Anderson

Let us pray the Lord’s Prayer together.  [Lead the prayer, but abruptly stop after “Lead us not into temptations”]   Hold it, hold it.  Have you ever wondered why we say, “lead us not into temptation?”   I mean, God wouldn’t lead us anywhere bad, so why do we say that?

Let me try to describe something a bit odd.  I believe in the goodness of the world.  I believe that there is an energy or a flow that we are invited into.  Think of it as a river.  We are all invited into the current of flow of the ... Read More »

If you had something very special, where would you keep it?  Would you put it in a special box? [show a fancy box]  Would you keep it under lock and key?  [show a Safe Box with a lock]  Would you bury it? [demonstrate digging a hole with a shovel]

Well, where do you think that God puts special things?  We know that God’s grace is in the sacraments.  For example in the Eucharist is the Body of Christ.  And we know that this box over here [tabernacle] holds that Body of Christ.  We know that God’s word is in the bible.  We know that many people feel God in nature.  But if God had something real where would God put ... Did you make any New Year’s resolutions? Some of the most common ones are:

-getting healthier [demonstrate doing curls with weights]

-losing weight [throw Doritos in trash]

-get organized

-praying more

-improving relationships

Here are some more interesting ones that I found:

I will not bore my boss ... Read More »

Mary, the Holy Mother of God/New Year’s Day, January 1, 2015, by Fr. Kevin Anderson

Posted by Michele Skeim on 1/05/15

This feast day has had many name changes: Circumcision of Jesus, Octave of Christmas, and Mary Mother of God.  But the one that I like the best is World Peace Day.  Pope Francis mentioned the importance of working for peace at the start of the New Year.
