Mass for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Mass for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is held on the second Sunday of the month (September - May*). The Mass is part of the regular 10:30 AM Sunday morning liturgy held at the South building, Christ Our Light, Zimmerman.
Members of the Deaf Community sign the readings as a voice interpreter translates the signing into words for the hearing community. Fr. Kevin is the presider and is fluent in American Sign Language. During the Mass, he signs and speaks at the same time in an attempt to bridge the world of the deaf with the world of the hearing for all present. An interpreter signs all the songs and congregations parts of the Mass. A potluck** is enjoyed after Mass.
*During the months of April and December we will not offer the Deaf Mass, and instead have an interpreter present for a Christmas and Easter Liturgy.
**This meal is primarily attended by deaf members and their families and friends.
