First Sunday of Lent, Year B, February 22, 2015, by Fr. Kevin Anderson

Posted by Michele Skeim on 2/26/15

Let us pray the Lord’s Prayer together.  [Lead the prayer, but abruptly stop after “Lead us not into temptations”]   Hold it, hold it.  Have you ever wondered why we say, “lead us not into temptation?”   I mean, God wouldn’t lead us anywhere bad, so why do we say that?

Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2015, by Fr. Kevin Anderson

Let me try to describe something a bit odd.  I believe in the goodness of the world.  I believe that there is an energy or a flow that we are invited into.  Think of it as a river.  We are all invited into the current of flow of the ... Read More »

Sixth Sunday In Ordinary Time,Year B, February 15, 2015, by Fr. Kevin Anderson

Let’s say that you are faced with a difficulty or a tension . . . which would you rather be:

an extension cord [hold up an extension cord up] or a water filter [hold up a water filter]?

Now think about what these two items do:

An extension ... Read More »

Third Sunday In Ordinary Time, Year B, January 25, 2015, by Fr. Kevin Anderson

I have a confession to make.  You know how we always want things to be smooth in our lives . . . and there not to be any conflict.  It is not pleasant to have tension between people, but especially when it with someone that we are expected to ... Read More »

Second Sunday In Ordinary Time, Year B, January 18, 2015, by Fr. Kevin Anderson

If you had something very special, where would you keep it?  Would you put it in a special box? [show a fancy box]  Would you keep it under lock and key?  [show a Safe Box with a lock]  Would you bury it? [demonstrate digging a hole with a shovel]

Well, where do you think that God puts special things?  We know that God’s grace is in the sacraments.  For example in the Eucharist is the Body of Christ.  And we know that this box over here [tabernacle] holds that Body of Christ.  We know that God’s word is in the bible.  We know that many people feel God in nature.  But if God had something real where would God put ... Did you make any New Year’s resolutions? Some of the most common ones are:

-getting healthier [demonstrate doing curls with weights]

-losing weight [throw Doritos in trash]

-get organized

-praying more

-improving relationships

Here are some more interesting ones that I found:

I will not bore my boss ... Read More »

Mary, the Holy Mother of God/New Year’s Day, January 1, 2015, by Fr. Kevin Anderson

Posted by Michele Skeim on 1/05/15

This feast day has had many name changes: Circumcision of Jesus, Octave of Christmas, and Mary Mother of God.  But the one that I like the best is World Peace Day.  Pope Francis mentioned the importance of working for peace at the start of the New Year.

I'll be home for Christmas You can plan on me Please have snow and mistletoe And presents under the tree

Sing:

A couple came to Bethlehem Expecting child, they searched the inn To find a place for a baby coming soon There was no room for them to stay So in a manger filled with hay God's only Son was born, Hallelujah. Hallelujah.  Hallelujah.  Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 21, 2014, by Fr. Kevin Anderson

Wow, this has been a rocky week with lots of world-wide news . . . i.e. renewed relations between the USA and Cuba; the sense-less shootings of school children in Pakistan and one that particularly hits me was the hostage siege in Sydney Australia of last Monday (their Tuesday).

As you remember, I was in Sydney last fall for a sabbatical.  I know that Café where the crisis took place.  It is not far from the big touristy place called Circular Que.   For those of you who didn’t hear much about it . . . an armed gunman breaks into a public café, holds many people hostage for 16 hours and finally police move and shot ...
